Major Craig Bywater joined the British Army in 1994 as a Tuba player. On completion of training at Kneller Hall, he was assigned to The Royal Logistic Corps Band in Camberley.
In 2006 Major Bywater started on the Bandmaster Course and graduated in 2009 where his first appointment as WO1 Bandmaster with The Band of The King’s Division in Weeton, Lancashire. In 2011 he was assigned to The Band of the Welsh Guards in London.
Major Bywater commissioned in July 2014 and was assigned to The Band of the Royal Logistic Corps as Captain. In 2016 he was assigned to the Headquarters Corps of Army Music as SO3 Ops/Trg
In 2018 Major Bywater was assigned as Director of Music of The Band of the Irish Guards in London and following completion of Intermediate Command and Staff Course at The Defence Academy, Shrivenham, he was selected to form the Army Music Capability Team in Army HQ Andover.
In 2022 Major Bywater was assigned to the role of Director of Music and Officer Commanding, British Army Band Colchester, and Regional Director of Music (East). In 2023, he was appointed as Director of Music and Officer Commanding, The Band of The Household Cavalry and Regional Director of Music (South).
