Major Tony Williams joined the Army in 1992 and after completing basic training and the pupil’s course at Kneller Hall, was assigned to the Band of the 1st Battalion the Staffordshire Regiment. Following Options for Change and the reorganisation of the Army in 1994, he moved to the newly formed Lucknow Band of the Prince of Wales’s Division.
In 2001 he was selected for the Student Bandmaster course and graduated in 2004. Assignments as Bandmaster of the Hussars and Light Dragoons (latterly the Light Cavalry Band) and the Royal Artillery Band in Woolwich would follow.
In 2010 he was selected for commission into the Corps of Army Music and was assigned back to the Prince of Wales’s Division. Next followed an assignment to the Royal Regiment of Scotland Band in Edinburgh. The formation of the Corps Engagement Team as Officer Commanding in 2016, SO3 Band Tasking at Regional Command in 2017, and latterly in 2019 to the Army Personnel Centre in Glasgow on promotion to Major as the career manager for all Army musicians.
In 2021 Major Williams was appointed the Director of Music of the Scots Guards Band. In the summer of 2023, he was assigned to British Army Band Colchester.
